Child’s Pose: A Simple Practice with Big Benefits

Known as a resting pose in more active classes, this powerful yet simple pose has many benefits. To really feel the difference, I made up my mind to add this pose more frequently. 

So recently, I decided to try Child's Pose 3 times for 5 minutes each. I made time for 5-minute sessions at 3 key points of my day whilst working from home: 

  • Morning: Before work, to start the day feeling calm.

  • Lunchtime: A midday break to reset and recharge.

  • Evening: After work, to unwind and release any lingering tension.

Here’s what I noticed after the sessions:

  • Calmer and More Collected: I felt a noticeable shift in my mood, becoming more focused and at ease.

  • Less Tension in My Lower Back: Sitting at a desk for hours can lead to tightness, but Child's Pose helped release some of that tension.

  • Better Core Support: I felt more engaged through my core as I held the pose, which helped me feel more stable.

  • Overall Relaxation: The more I practiced, the more I felt grounded and relaxed, which stayed with me throughout the day.

Small note: this practice was do-able for me since I worked from home and had a mat close at my disposal. But, you can also do a seated cat-cow instead if you’re busy.
